Getting started with Oportax

What Oportax does

  • Classify your imports against CBAM commodity codes to determine which goods are in scope.
  • Collect emissions data from your suppliers through structured outreach.
  • Prepare your CBAM return and audit pack for you or your customs agent to submit on time.

How it works

  1. Sign up: create your account and enter your company details.
  2. Upload imports: add your import data from customs brokers, ERP systems, or a spreadsheet.
  3. Add suppliers: identify and add the overseas suppliers within CBAM scope.
  4. Send outreach: use Oportax to request emissions data from each supplier.
  5. Prepare return: review your data and generate the return for HMRC submission.

Typical timeline

  • Week 1: Account setup, import data upload, and initial classification.
  • Weeks 2–4: Supplier outreach and emissions data collection.
  • Ongoing: Monitoring new imports, updating supplier data, and filing quarterly returns.
